Demetris Demetriou
Demetris was born in Nicosia in 1981. He graduated from the Pancyprian High School in 1999 and completed his military service in 2001. He studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of Patras. During his studies in 2005 he was elected as the President of the F.P.K Protoporia Patras. He also holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Cyprus.
From 2006 to 2009 he worked as an assistant of the Cypriot right winged politician Ioannis Kasoulidis and between 2010-2016 he worked as the Director of Communication and Marketing at the publishing group SPP Media. Between 2009 and 2011 he served as the Vice President of the Youth Organisation of the Democratic Rally in Cyprus (NEDISY). In 2013 until 2017 he was elected as the President of the Organisation for Young Professionals of the Democratic Rally (ONE). In 2016 he was elected for the first time as a Member of the House of the Representatives in Cyprus (MP) with the Democratic Rally in Cyprus (DISY). In July of 2018 he accepted the position of the Spokesperson of DISY, which decided to withdraw in February of 2023, when he was running for DISY’s leadership against Annita Demetriou. In 2021 he was re-elected as an MP, with the second highest votes from all MPs across all parties.
As a Member of Parliament, during his first mandate, he served as the Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, while he was also a member of the Committees on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Transport-Communication and Works. He was and still is the Head of the Parliament’s delegation to Europol’s Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (M.O.K.E. Europol). In the current mandate he serves as the President of the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions, Merit and the Commissioner on Administration, he is a member of the Committee of Labour and Social Insurance and he’s a remaining member of the Committee of Transport-Communication and Works.
He is a firm believer of Freedom, Justice, Rule of Law and Transparency. He is married to Dina Penga and they have a daughter.
