Pilar TENA is director of the Instituto Cervantes in Greece since 2022. Before moving to Athens, she was head of the Instituto Cervantes in the Netherlands for 5 years. With a degree in Law and a degree in Information Sciences (Journalism), throughout her professional life she has held management positions in different foundations and public and private institutions of relevance. During its first 10 years, starting in 2002, she was deputy director of the Real Instituto Elcano, the most influential think tank in Spain;in 1998 she coordinated the Federico García Lorca Centenary at the request of the family and the foundation of the poet from Granada;she was director of the Spain ‘92 Foundation in New York, etc. She has lived and worked in different cities, from Dublin to Amsterdam, via Montevideo, London, New Delhi, Sydney, New York, Geneva or Stockholm, and currently Athens. She is the author of six books: Aritmética familiar (Tres Hermanas, 2022) recently published in Greek by Vakxicón under the title: Η αριθμητική της οικογένειας);Fin de semana (Tres Hermanas, 2020);Luciana (Tres Hermanas, 2018);La Embajadora (Roca, 2016);Contratiempos (Salto de Página, 2014), and Cómo sobrevivir a un despido… y volver a trabajar (Pirámide, 2013). She is currently working on her seventh book, a thriller set in New York in the 1990s. She is married and has a son, a daughter and four granddaughters, and currently struggles to find time to live between Athens, the city where she lives and works, Madrid, her birthplace and her roots, and the Eastern coast of Asturias, her refuge in the countryside.
