Curriculum Vitae of Dr Nicholas A. Ioannides,
Deputy Minister of Migration & International Protection
Nicholas A. Ioannides holds a PhD in Public International Law from the University of Bristol (2017). He was a Nippon Fellow at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg (2017-2018). He received his LLB from the School of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Bristol.
He has taught Public International Law, International Humanitarian Law and European Law in academic institutions in Cyprus and abroad. He has served as a legal advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus for issues pertaining to Public International Law and European Law. He represented the Republic of Cyprus at the International Court of Justice in The Hague (Chagos Advisory Opinion) and participated in working groups of the Council of the European Union (COJUR, COMAR).
In 2019, he received an award by the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations for the best doctoral thesis in International Law for the academic years 2017-2019. In 2020, he was awarded the ‘Daniel Vignes’ Prize by the International Association for the Law of the Sea for an academic article published in an international legal journal.
He has published a monograph (another is currently under publication) and several academic articles/chapters in international legal publications. He was also the Chairman of the Committee of International and European Law of the Cyprus Bar Association.
